The Kamehameha Schools Virtual Strategies & Distance Learning Branch is excited to share with you the 'Ike Hawai'i Distance Learning Program. A series of 'Ike Hawai'i distance learning courses (mostly online with integrated cultural field trip experiences) will be offered to students interested in learning more about topics related to the Hawaiian culture.
All high school students statewide are encouraged to enroll in 'Ike Hawai'i distance learning courses. Upon satisfactory completion of each course, students will receive a semester Kamehameha Schools credit. Students are limited to enrollment in one course per semester.
For students interested in a long term program, there will be the opportunity to earn a Kamehameha Schools 'Ike Hawai'i Certificate by enrolling in subsequent semesters. Upon satisfactory completion of 4 'Ike Hawai'i courses, students will receive a certificate. For more information on required and elective courses, please refer to distance learning course offerings.
Overall goals for 'Ike Hawai'i Distance Learning Program:
- Provide culturally based curriculum and opportunities for Hawaiian learners to succeed in a distance learning environment.
- Encourage learner self discovery through Hawaiian cultural experiences to shape one's own life or "world view"
- Increase learner's technology skills
- Prepare learner's readiness (academic, emotional, social) for higher education
