Q. Who should participate in this program?
A. All Hawai‘i Department of Education educators are encouraged to enroll for these courses through the Professional Development system (PDE3).
Q. Are there any requirements?
A. Participants must have access to a computer with reliable Internet access.
Participants must be able to implement lessons with students and complete a portfolio to earn PD credit.
Q. Do I have to take the courses in order?
A. Yes, we recommend you take the courses in order, starting with Ka Mole. Participants with prior experiences in developing culturally-based materials and/or online curriculum can e-mail aokumu@ksbe.edu.
Q. How much do the courses cost?
A. At this time, all courses are provided free.
Q. What if I'm not a Hawai‘i Department of Education teacher, can I take the courses?
A. Non-DOE teachers may participate on a space-available basis. Please contact aokumu@ksbe.edu for more information.
Q. What if I don't teach Hawaiian culture?
A. You only need to be able to integrate the resources provided into your existing curriculum. The resources we provide are meant to be used as a compliment to your curriculum no matter what you are teaching.
Q. What if I teach elementary students?
A. Although you may be an elementary teacher, there will be some resources that you may readily use, for other resources, you may have to adapt them to fit your needs, but it can be done. |
